Crossville Housing Authority is a public housing agency that helps provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Crossville Housing Authority was charted in 1952 and rented the first unit in 1960. Since that time the CHA has constructed nine public housing projects and aquired some single-family homes for a total of 328 housing units today.
The CHA Section 8 Program began in 1990 and today administers over 300 Housing Choice Volunteers and administers two other programs focused on housing the homeless: The Shelter Plus Program and the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.
Since 1993 CHA has used HOME grant funds and Federal Home Loan Bank AHP funding to purchase and rehabilitate a number of single-family homes and construct apartments. Low Income Housing Tax Credit funding has allowed us to construct elderly and family housing units.
Crossville Housing Authority has numberous programs including Family Self-Sufficiency, Homeownership, Section 8 Mortgage Subsidy Program, Homeownership Training and Preparation, after-school and summer youth programs, and programs for the elderly. In addition the CHA operates and Education and Computer Lab which is oen to the public five afternoons a week.
Crossville Housing Authority is a multi-faceted, progressive public housing agency and has received HUD's highest rating for over ten years.
